Lorcaserin developed Arena Pharmaceuticals affects appetite siganls to the brain. Study subjects lost an average of 8 percent of their weight, with headaches as a side effect. The drug is close but has not yet received FDA approval.
Qnexa developed by Vivus has helped patients loos weight and reduce both blood pressue and sleep apnea symptoms in phase II trials. Qnexa includes phentermine to reduce appetite with topiramate which is an epilepsy drugs and gvies a feeling of fullness over time. Pateints lost an average of 10 percent of body weight. Side effects include dry mouth, change in tasteand digestive issues. Qnexa is currently under review by the FDA and has not yet been approved.
